Set up the page the same way every time

Draw a small compass in the corner of your rough sheet before you read the question. North up, south down, east right, west left. Between them: north-east is up-right, south-west is down-left.

Then plot the walk as arrows from a marked starting point. Do not try to hold four turns in your head.

The turning rule

Turns are relative to the direction the person is currently facing, not to the page.

Facing north: right turn gives east, left turn gives west. Facing east: right gives south, left gives north. Facing south: right gives west, left gives east. Facing west: right gives north, left gives south.
