The procedure
Seating puzzles are about order of work, not cleverness. Follow this every time.
Step 1. Draw the seats and number them. For a row, 1 to n from the left. For a circle, mark n points numbered clockwise.
Step 2. Note who faces where. In a row, "facing north" means you and the seated people share the same left and right. "Facing south" flips them.
Step 3. Sort the clues. Definite clues first — "R is third from the left", "P is at the extreme end". These fix a seat. Relative clues second. Negative clues such as "S is not next to T" last, because they place nobody and only remove options.
