Infosys
A large Indian IT services company that hires engineering graduates in volume for Systems Engineer style roles, and runs a smaller, much harder track for strong coders. Work spans application development, testing, support, data and platform engineering for global clients.
Cut-offs and test patterns change every hiring cycle. Treat this page as orientation and confirm the current cycle on their own careers site and with your placement cell.
1Infosys eligibility criteria
Who can generally apply
- Infosys hires both on campus and through off-campus drives advertised on its own careers portal.
- Fresher hiring is generally aimed at full-time degree holders in engineering and allied streams, with the eligible passing years named in each specific job posting.
- Infosys runs additional routes into hiring, including InfyTQ, its learning and engagement platform for students, and HackWithInfy, a coding contest for engineering students in a named graduating year that carries pre-placement interview opportunities and can lead to specialist roles.
What you must confirm yourself
- Infosys does not publish one permanent, site-wide eligibility page for freshers. The job posting you are applying to is the authority, and its criteria change from cycle to cycle.
- Marks requirements, backlog rules and gap rules are set per drive. Anything you read elsewhere describing a fixed percentage should be treated as unverified.
- The higher tracks and the general track usually have different bars. Read which one a posting is for.
2Infosys selection process
Stages
- Apply through the Infosys careers portal, through your college placement cell, or qualify through a contest route such as HackWithInfy.
- Clear an online assessment.
- Attend interviews if shortlisted.
- Offer, documentation and onboarding, followed by training before project allocation.
About the online assessment
Infosys does not publish a permanent section-by-section syllabus on its public careers pages. Candidates commonly report an assessment made up of a mathematical or quantitative section, a logical reasoning section, a verbal or English section, a pseudocode section built around C, C++ and data structure fundamentals, and a puzzle section. Higher tracks such as Specialist Programmer are commonly reported to add substantially harder coding problems.
Treat that as a well-attested candidate description, not an official specification. Section names, counts and timings change between cycles.
About HackWithInfy
Infosys officially describes it as a multi-stage coding contest: a preparation window, a virtual coding qualifier round, a further competitive round carrying a pre-placement interview opportunity, and a grand finale for top performers. Strong performers are considered for specialist and internship opportunities.
Interviews
Candidates commonly report a technical interview and an HR interview, sometimes with an additional round for the specialist tracks. Round counts vary. Do not plan around a fixed number.
3Infosys syllabus: what to study
Quantitative ability
- Percentages, ratio and proportion, averages, ages
- Profit and loss, simple and compound interest
- Time and work, time speed and distance
- Permutations, combinations, probability
- Number system, divisibility, decimals, series, HCF and LCM
- Geometry and mensuration basics
- Data interpretation from charts and tables
Logical reasoning
- Arrangement and seating puzzles
- Syllogisms and logical deduction
- Coding and decoding, number series
- Cryptarithmetic, which is unusually prominent in Infosys candidate reports
- Clocks and calendars
- Data sufficiency
Verbal and English
- Reading comprehension
- Sentence correction and sentence completion
- Para jumbles
- Error spotting, one-word substitution, analogies
- Grammar fundamentals and short written English
Pseudocode
This is the section that most surprises candidates who have only practised aptitude.
- Reading C-style pseudocode line by line and predicting the output
- Pointers and pass-by-reference behaviour
- Array indexing, off-by-one behaviour, loop termination
- Recursion traces
- Basic data structure operations expressed in pseudocode: linked lists, stacks, queues
Data structures and algorithms, for coding rounds and specialist tracks
- Arrays, strings, hash maps, sets
- Linked lists, stacks, queues
- Trees and binary search trees; graph traversal (BFS and DFS)
- Sorting and binary search
- Recursion, backtracking and introductory dynamic programming
- Time and space complexity reasoning
Core computer science, for the interview
- Object-oriented programming concepts with examples in your language
- DBMS: keys, normalisation, joins, transactions, and hand-writing SQL
- Operating systems and computer networks fundamentals
- Your projects, including design choices you would now make differently
4How to prepare for Infosys
If you have one to three years
- Treat pseudocode as a first-class subject, not an afterthought. Learn to trace code on paper: draw the variables, update them line by line. This one skill carries the section.
- Build real fluency in one language, and know how it handles memory, references and string operations.
- Keep a daily aptitude and reasoning habit going through your second and third years. Cryptarithmetic and arrangement puzzles in particular reward accumulated practice and punish cramming.
- Start solving data structures and algorithms problems by your second year if you want the specialist tracks. That gap is not closable in a final-semester sprint.
- Enter HackWithInfy when you are eligible. Even without winning, it is real contest practice with a genuine route attached, and it is officially run by Infosys.
- Use InfyTQ, since it is Infosys' own platform and the closest thing to a signal about what they value.
- Write and speak English regularly. The verbal sections and the HR round both test it.
The honest caveat
The subject areas above are stable. The section list, timings and marks criteria are not, and Infosys does not publish them permanently. Read the actual job posting for your cycle before making decisions based on any specific number.
Practise for it
The rounds above are only worth knowing if you sit them once before the real thing.
